Integrated Biosciences Announces its Scientific Advisory Board Featuring World Leaders in Synthetic and Aging Biology, Chemistry, and Drug Discovery
REDWOOD CITY, Calif.–Integrated Biosciences, a biotechnology company advancing small molecule therapeutics for age-related diseases, today announced its Scientific Advisory Board (SAB). The SAB brings together world-renowned scientists and industry leaders whose work spans synthetic and aging biology, chemistry, and drug discovery.
The board will provide strategic and scientific guidance to support Integrated Biosciences’ mission of developing novel therapeutics for age-related diseases.
Jim Collins, PhD, a scientific co-founder of the company, serves as Chair of the SAB. Jim is the Termeer Professor of Medical Engineering & Science and Professor of Biological Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), as well as a member of the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences & Technology faculty. He is also a founding core faculty member of the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University and an institute member of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Widely regarded as one of the founders of synthetic biology, Jim’s patented technologies have been licensed by more than 40 biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device companies. He has received numerous awards and honors, including the MacArthur “Genius” Award and the Dickson Prize in Medicine, and is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the National Academy of Medicine.
David MacMillan, PhD, is the James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor of Chemistry at Princeton University, where he previously served as Department Chair. In 2021, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, shared with Benjamin List, for the development of asymmetric organocatalysis, a groundbreaking approach to catalysis and molecular synthesis. His laboratory has also pioneered photoredox catalysis—merging visible light with organic and transition-metal catalysis to enable previously inaccessible reactions—which has had a transformative impact on medicinal chemistry. More recently, his group introduced µMap, a photocatalytic proximity-labeling platform that maps molecular interactions directly on living cells. Together, these innovations have reshaped modern catalysis and extended its reach into the life sciences.
Wendy Young, PhD, who previously served as Senior Vice President of Small Molecule Discovery at Genentech, brings over 30 years of experience in advancing novel therapeutics from discovery through clinical development. During her tenure at Genentech (2006–2021), she led teams that discovered and advanced more than 25 clinical candidates, including the BTK inhibitor fenebrutinib, of which she is co-inventor, that is currently in Phase 3 trials. Wendy is an inventor or author on over 70 patents and scientific publications.
Uri Alon, PhD, a Professor at the Weizmann Institute of Science, is an internationally recognized systems biologist known for pioneering work on the design principles of gene regulatory networks and the quantitative biology of aging. His research combines computational modeling with experimental biology to uncover the architecture and dynamics of complex biological systems. Uri’s honors include the IBM Faculty Award, the Overton Prize, and the Teva Founders Prize.
We are deeply honored to have such an exceptional group of scientists guiding our work,” said Felix Wong, PhD, co-founder and CEO of Integrated Biosciences. “We have been working with Jim, Dave, Wendy, and Uri for some time now, and I know that their insights and leadership across synthetic and systems biology, chemistry, and drug discovery will be instrumental as we advance our platform and therapeutic pipeline to address the biology of aging in fundamentally new ways.
The SAB will play a key role in advancing Integrated Biosciences’ platform, which integrates synthetic biology, chemistry, and artificial intelligence to unravel the molecular underpinnings of aging and design small molecule therapeutics for age-related diseases.
